Building Resilience in Young People
“It’s your reaction to adversity, not adversity itself that determines how your life’s story will develop” —Dieter F. Uchtdorf”
Are you in a position to influence young people?
Are you a coach, parent, counselor, teacher or just someone who spends time with young people? If so, this program is for you.
One of the most important characteristics we can help develop in young people is resilience. We all know that life can be difficult and learning not just how to deal with it but how come back stronger is extremely valuable. And just like anything else, the earlier you learn this, the easier it is to become part of your thinking.
Resilience is the concept of coming back from a setback. Resilience has been identified as the number one characteristic of morale, health and success. It is very important, therefore, that we teach resilience to our young people. When young people have developed the characteristic of resilience, it is a lifelong skill that will serve them the rest of their life.
This program teaches how we can develop resilience in young people. There are steps involved in this process that this program details. Research suggests there are “things” we can do to help young people. This will program will show you how to:
Connect with young people
Allow young people to experience “existential suffering” so that they can learn and become adults
Teach private speech so self-talk can be utilized to develop resiliency
Build a “home culture” where resiliency principles are reinforced
Speak the language of encouragement so having the courage to try and even fail is taught
Developing the skill to encourage you as a parent, grandparent, teacher or coach
I don’t believe there is much of a greater calling than to develop young people. Whatever is do that outlasts us is real and makes life has purpose. When we teach our young people to be resilient, we are doing exactly that.
